Sunday lazing and lunching
Making the most out of every weekend sometimes means just resting. A cuppa and a biscuit in bed; settling into a good book; catching up on your favourite box-set. All of the above please. And so, after a massive week at work, and with one daughter away with school, a restful weekend was just what the doctor ordered.

This weekend’s highlight came in the form of an epic roast dinner. Supreme resting means someone else has to cook! So we headed out to The Dun Cow in Dunchurch which, whilst quite a big pub, feels country quaint inside. It’s split into a number of smaller rooms and feels warm and homely. Whilst it was minus 2 outside, the big open fire gave a giant hug of a welcome.
I’m not a massive roast lover, but managed to eat every scrap. It was a fully loaded plate with a mountain of scrumptious roasted vegetables – I’m know I’m showing my age when I appreciate a honey roasted carrot alongside a tasty roasted parsnip. I went for an extra Yorkshire, which was an A* decision. The beef fat roasties, were the only slight disappointment as I think they’d been cooked a good while ago, but all was forgiven due to the showstopper - the epic gravy. And I ordered more. It was my full intention to go for a pudding too (I always check the pudding menu before I order my mains), but I was beat. How very disappointing. Minus points for me.

However, what I very much appreciated was the special drink that was listed on the top of the menu. A non-alcoholic raspberry spritz which was delish! If you’re the nominated driver, drinking coke gets old really quickly. Some imagination had been put into what the Sunday drivers might want to drink. Nice.
The only thing I didn’t appreciate on this outing, was the calorie listing next to each line item on the menu. Who honestly thinks this is a good idea?
But for those who do feel the need to go walk off the whopping 2000 calories that had just been served up, a five-mile loop around Draycote Water which is just down the road would be just the ticket. I, on the other hand, went back home, put on some stretchy trousers and binge watched Netflix until I fell asleep.
That, my friends, is how to do a Sunday.
