Sunshine Saturday
As it was blowing a hooley outside it seemed apt that on this first Saturday of the year, we played to type, got into holiday planning mode and embraced ‘Sunshine Saturday’. Typically the most popular day to book a foreign holiday, I woke up early, put the kettle on, and booted up the laptop in search of any January bargains.
After five days away last week, it was delightful to be able to take it easy, put on some music and dream about where in the world we might go next. Two things interrupted my reverie.. with normal life returning, so too had our Saturday routine – an all-day taxi driving service needed to start for the daughters; and secondly, I checked the post Cham bank balance, and very quickly landed back down to earth with a bump!
But, sat in a café waiting for the youngest, I couldn’t resist having another look for flight options for this summer. Every year, my parents kindly take my children away for a week at the beginning of the holidays. Could I be a digital nomad for that week? Could I fly to Spain whilst the kids are away and work during the day but enjoy the long, warm evenings and lifestyle for just a few days? Could I really?

Ryanair was the answer! I absolutely could. A return flight to Malaga in July cost just under £100 each. A very lucky find, because it looks like flights this summer are pricey! However, with our names and details already pre-loaded in the app, it’s all too easy to press ‘buy tickets’. We are lucky enough to fly out to Spain fairly frequently, given our crazy mid-pandemic purchase (a very old, very broken, but oh so very lovely Andalucian townhouse). So, whilst it was cold, wet and dark outside, I got my fix of future sunshine with the click of a button.
With plenty of Christmas leftovers to eat, drink and watch on the TV, and a warm sofa to snuggle down into, Sunshine Saturday was the full extent of my excitement this weekend. The ‘wandering’ is just the day dreaming I’m now doing about the way I can spend that lovely week in Malaga.
